Peter Cari A founding partner of Envision Communications, Peter Cari is one of the country’s leading experts on congressional races and independent expenditure campaigns. During the 2008 cycle, Cari guided several multi-million dollar independent expenditures, helping the National Education Association elect Mark Udall to the U.S. Senate in Colorado and Bev Perdue to the Governor’s mansion in North Carolina. Cari worked with the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee to regain Democratic control of the Nevada state Senate, and with the Wisconsin Education Association Council to win back control of the Wisconsin state Assembly. Cari worked with Defend Oregon to defeat a series of anti-labor and anti-education ballot initiatives, and in 2006 and 2007 his issue advocacy work helped elect Democratic governors in Massachusetts and Kentucky.
During the 2008 cycle, Cari also served as lead strategist and media consultant for Congressman Mark Schauer (MI-07), who defeated a Republican incumbent, and for Congressman John Boccieri (OH-16), who won a difficult race in a Republican open seat. He was also the chief advisor for the successful reelection campaigns of Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) and Congressman Mike Arcuri (NY-24). Prior to his work as a media consultant, Cari served as Political Director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In that capacity, he was responsible for the DCCC’s overall strategic direction, candidate recruitment and messaging. In 2002 and 2004, Peter directed all aspects of the DCCC’s $40 million independent expenditure campaigns.
From 1996 to 2004, Cari served in various senior roles at the DCCC. In 1996, he headed the research department and led their issue advocacy program, which spent millions on communications and assisted in the pick-up of nine seats. In 1998, Peter served as the DCCC’s chief tactician, directing the Committee’s polling, research and issue advocacy operations.
In 1999, Peter founded Cari Strategic Consulting – a firm dedicated to providing strategic consulting to candidates, political organizations and non-profit groups. He served as the lead strategist to IMPAC 2000 - the Democratic Party’s national congressional redistricting project.
